BIOGRAPHY
Dan Demetriad's career in photography spans nearly 30 years; he was an early pioneer in digital photography and his expertise in portraiture and editorial photography, video and graphic design continues to keep him a step ahead of his peers and a favorite of some of the country's most successful artists and entertainers, businesspeople and brands. Born in Bucharest, Dan trained as a professional photographer there and in New York; he is a master of portraiture and lighting and is reknowned for his highly collaborative, easy style with clients of all ages. He teaches small groups advanced lighting and retouching techniques, as well as runs a Saturday workshop for teens and young adults in basic digital photography. His nonprofit, PowerShoot, works to empower creative expression and civic engagement through photography and short-form digital video. Top agents, editors and executives turn to Dan to provide exceptional portraits amid a range of environments, and he is tapped by agents and editors to reshoot or correct the work of others in the field. Dan also is known for helping to create a distinctive Web and video brand for new and existing clients, shoot live performances on deadline, and design custom-made Websites for promising or established talents and social good start-ups. Since 2009, Dan and his small staff of young graphic designers also have been helping clients to promote themselves with imaginatively designed blogs, newsletters, short videos and podcasts. The studio will be launching a new media marketing/agent service for entertainment and nonprofit/small business clients in 2011. Dan's work has been recognized by The New York Times, Town & Country magazine, Quest Magazine and CNN, as well as by most of the city's "Where to Find It" shopping guidebooks for Manhattan. From 2005 - 2009, he was the Chief Photographer for Contribute Magazine in New York, and he continues to be a photographer and photo restoration specialist of choice for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The New York Athletic Club, the Metropolitan Opera, The Juilliard School and a wide range of top commercial brands including Brooks Brothers, Steinway & Sons, New York University and the St. Louis Rams. Most of Dan's clients have been with him for years; he is happiest professionally when he is helping his clients to succeed and enjoys working with new artists, young families, children and social entrepreneurs. An anthology of Dan's portraiture and Manhattan cityscapes is scheduled for publication in late 2011. |
